On January 26, 2007, Reilly Construction invited the fourth through eighth grade students of both South Winneshiek and DeSales Schools in Ossian, Iowa to attend a Construction Fun Day at our maintenance facility in Ossian, IA. The shop was all decorated up for our Employee Appreciation Party which would be held the following night. The 250 students attending the event were shown a video which showed many types of construction equipment both big and small, old and new.
They were welcomed by RCC President Chris Reilly who explained to them that Construction has something for everybody no matter what career path you may wish to take. Chuck Covell gave them an introduction to the increasing role that computers play in construction today, not only in the office but in the field as well. Justin Lechtenberg gave them a demonstration on how GPS is becoming one of the fastest growing fields in construction today.
In addition to being shown the future of construction, Don Kipp shows the students one of the oldest operating pieces of equipment owned by Reilly Construction. A fully restored Caterpillar No. 10 Motor Grader.
Chuck Sender who organized this event is pictured talking to the students about the various types of equipment used by Reilly Construction. There was even time for just plain fun, like trying to see just how many kids you can stuff in the bucket of a Caterpillar 365 excavator. And the chance to sit in the cab of a real Truck Tractor, with a little help from Rick Gunderson.
Reilly Construction would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the teachers and staff of both South Winneshiek and De Sales Schools who made the success of this day possible.
